Andalucía 2021
Explore southern Spain with Susana Trilling and friends, next September 2021
A world of culinary delights such as tapas, manzanilla, Sherry, Jamon Iberica, and incredible sweets await you in southern Spain!, join us as we explore the food, culture and people of Andalucía. Along with great food, we’ll meet local chefs, inspirational artists, musicians and flamenco dancers. From horse drawn carriages we’ll admire the architecture and churches, and learn the history of Spain from castles and boats! We’ll tour the famous markets with their incredible characters and chefs, enjoying seafood, cheese, ice cream concoctions, and churros! Experience a degustacion of artisanal olive oils, and visit the producers’ homes and ranches, as well as the bodegas and sherry makers. Of course, you will participate in hands-on cooking classes or demonstrations taught by Chef Susana Trilling’s friends and colleagues.
Beginning in Seville, we stay in the heart of the city and have a hands-on cooking class, go to the market, investigate various types of churros, and enjoy the pastries, tapas and salmorejo (one of the most famous dishes of the region). We will visit churches, markets and beautiful parks in this most picturesque and historical city. After eating tapas we’ll hang out with the Flamenco dancers for an evening jaunt on the other side of the river.
We will travel to Jerez to watch the stunning performance of Arabian horses at the finest Equestrian academy, taste at a sherry bodega and enjoy restaurants that have exceptional Andalusian dishes. We will visit Suco, an old family friend of Susana who lives in the forested white villages of Andulucia. He is a winemaker who will introduce us to some very interesting characters among them cheese makers, olive oil makers, chefs and noted artist Jose Hinojo Velasquez, who all live in these mountains.
In Cádiz we will visit the museum, climb the bell tower of the Cathedral, shop, relax and eat tapas in one of the coolest and oldest restaurants I’ve ever been! We will go to some incredible bars and restaurants, and find more flamenco!! We will visit Susana’s friend Rocio, in an adjoining beach town and eat amazing seafood on the beach and drink Manzanilla. We’ll have a private tour of a church to look at the art collection of gold and silver. We will visit cloistered nuns to buy dulces from them, indulge ourselves eating ice cream specialties and hear and see more Flamenco in very casual hometown bars!
We will end our tour in the mysterious, exciting town of Vejer de la Frontera, on top of a mesa, which is a mixture of Andalucia and Moorish architecture and one of the most unique places I have ever been. It has great food and things to buy and feels one step away from Africa and the Moors! We will culminate the tour by going to a large feria, the Feria de San Miguel in Torremolinos. In Vejer de la Frontera our trip will end, with options to stay on, go to Africa or travel back to Jerez, Sevilla and points north.
