We combine the best of Oaxaca City and its surrounding countryside to fully experience Oaxacan cuisine. In the charming historic center of this colonial city, we take in a wide range of flavors and sights; from dining in some of Oaxaca's finest restaurants to experiencing contemporary and regional cuisine, as well as getting to sample the best street food (night time run for arrachera tacos, tostadas and tlayudas)!
We tour the famed Mercados de Oaxaca to learn about typical Oaxacan foods and sample fresh ingredients. In the Etla Valley we see a demonstration and participate in making the famous Oaxacan string cheese, Quesillo, as well as grind toasted cacao beans on a metate (3 legged stone). We spend the day with a family of rug weavers and eat preHispanic food in their home. Try your hand at making tortillas on the comal and add new and exciting recipes/techniques to your repertoire!
After a sumptuous breakfast, our mornings are centered on visiting local artisan or cottage industries; weavers, potters, painters and printmakers. Most afternoons we head out to Seasons of My Heart for hands-on cooking classes. Each class builds on the last, to expand your culinary expertise.
Some evenings are free time to explore Oaxaca city.
